Why Hartford Homeowners Have Called Austin Since 1939

Austin Plumbing, Heating, Air & Electric has been serving Hartford and surrounding Washington County communities since 1939. Hartford homeowners want it handled — not a sales process, not a long explanation. Someone who shows up, knows what they’re doing, and fixes it right. Multi-generational families across this area have been calling Austin for decades because that’s consistently what they get.

At Austin, nobody is a salesperson. Every person who comes to your home is a tradesperson, trained in-house the Austin way. Our techs are non-commissioned — they get paid the same for a $150 fix as a $3,000 replacement. Hartford homeowners get straight answers and solid work. That standard goes back to the beginning and it hasn’t changed.

What Hartford homeowners say about us: friendly and considerate techs, clear communication, fast service, and a team that treats every home with real care. Every one of our 3,500+ five-star reviews was earned — not bought, not traded for a discount, not incentivized in any way. Real Hartford homeowners sharing real experiences. Real Work Completed in Hartford

Steve and Jann M. needed extensive plumbing work completed as part of a new barn construction project. We installed a new 1-1/4-inch main water line and wiring from the barn to the well pit, ran underground poly water lines to future automatic waterers, roughed in a 4-inch drain for a future trench drain, ran a 6-inch PVC line to pick up a downspout, and tied all new and existing water lines together with proper valving. This was phase one of a larger project with additional work planned for the following spring.
Laura and John C. needed their two aging 75-gallon water heaters replaced. We removed both old units and installed two new 50-gallon power vent water heaters with mixing valves set to 120 degrees and automatic shut-off valves that trigger if any water is detected in the pans. Both pans were drained to nearby floor drains as an added precaution. Everything was tested and confirmed working before we left.
Bruce and Becky M. had their three AC units serviced as part of their Club Austin membership. During the tune-up we found one unit significantly low on refrigerant. We recharged it with 4 pounds of refrigerant to restore cooling, rinsed all coils, and replaced filters on all furnaces. The client was advised that the low unit has a known leak and discussed replacement options for the following spring.
Kathy V. had an outdated electrical panel that needed to be replaced. We installed a new 200-amp load center, transferred all existing circuits to the new panel, and labeled everything before wrapping up. The new panel brings the home’s electrical system up to current safety standards.
Brad L. called after a lightning strike took out his existing well pump. Based on the well data, we recommended and installed a new 3/4 HP Grundfos constant pressure system with a new status box and pressure tank, setting the pump on 106 feet of 1-inch PVC pipe. Everything was tested and confirmed working before we left.
Tara V. had a leaking iron filter that needed to be replaced along with her water softener. We removed both old units, relocated the new iron filter next to the new water softener, made all new connections, and ran a new softened water line back to the cold water supply for the home. Everything was tested and confirmed working with no leaks before we left.

Common Questions Hartford Homeowners Ask Austin

Will Austin try to sell me something I don’t need?
No. Austin’s techs are non-commissioned — they earn the same whether the answer is a repair or a replacement — and the company employs only tradespeople, never salespeople. In Hartford homes you’ll get honest options with the final decision yours. Empowering the client is one of Austin’s core values, so selling you more doesn’t benefit anyone here.
Do Hartford homeowners recommend Austin?
Yes. Austin has earned 3,500+ five-star reviews across Southeast Wisconsin, not one bought, traded for a discount, or incentivized in any way. Hartford homeowners describe friendly, considerate techs, clear communication, and a team that treats every home with real care. Real people, real experiences.
Can I trust whoever Austin sends?
Yes. The person who arrives is an Austin tradesperson — trained in-house “the Austin Way,” never a subcontractor or salesperson. They diagnose the real problem, explain it clearly, do the work to Austin’s craftsmanship standards, mind their manners, and leave your home the way they found it.
Who owns Austin?
Eric Smith — Owner, President, third-generation master tradesman — owns and runs Austin, built on what his grandfather Austin Smith founded in 1939. The founder’s name lives on through Eric’s young son Austin, the fourth generation and the boy in Austin’s TV commercials. The company still runs on the founder’s words, “Be Good,” and it is not for sale at any price — buyers ask regularly, and the answer is always no.
What if something goes wrong later?
Austin backs its work with a one-line promise that’s also a core value: if our work breaks, we’ll fix it for free. If the workmanship fails, Austin makes it right at no charge. Because Austin is local and here for the long haul, there’s always a real company to call.
Can Austin actually solve my problem?
Almost certainly. Austin handles plumbing, water heaters, heating, cooling, and electrical for Hartford homes — all in-house, all to code, all backed by experience since 1939. When a problem spans more than one system, one experienced company takes care of all of it.
