Sump Pump Problems We Can Help With

If your sump pump is doing any of this, call us. We work on the pump, battery backup and the plumbing around the system.

The Sump Pump Won’t Turn On

If the water is rising and the pump isn’t coming on, we can help.

We’ll find out whether the pump has failed or whether the problem can be corrected without replacing it.

The Pump Runs but Isn’t Moving Water

If you hear the pump running but the water level isn’t dropping, something isn’t doing its job.

We’ll find the problem and get the system moving water again.

The Sump Pump Won’t Stop Running

A sump pump that keeps running after the water drops needs attention.

We’ll determine why it isn’t shutting off normally before constant running turns into a failed pump.

The Sump Pump Alarm Is Going Off

If the primary or battery-backup system is alarming, call us.

We can check what is working, what isn’t and what needs attention.

Water Is Leaking or Spraying Around the Sump Pump

A leaking connection, check valve or discharge can create a mess even when the pump itself still runs.

We can repair the part of the system causing the problem.

You Just Don’t Trust the Pump Anymore

Maybe it’s old. Maybe it has failed before. Maybe it works hard every time it rains and you’re nervous about leaving the house.

We can test what you have and tell you whether it still makes sense to rely on it.

Water Coming In Right Now?

If the sump pump has failed and water is actively entering the basement, go directly to our emergency sump pump service.

Not Sure Which Pump You Have?

Homeowners call several different systems a sump pump. The easiest way to sort them out is by what the pump handles.

Rainwater or Groundwater

If the pump collects groundwater or rainwater around the foundation and sends it away from the basement, that’s a sump pump.

You’re on the right page.

Floor Drain, Laundry or Basement Wastewater

If the pump handles wastewater from basement fixtures, a laundry sink or a floor drain, you may have a sewage or ejector pump.

Wastewater From the Entire House

If the pump handles sewage from the whole house before sending it toward the sewer or septic system, you may have a grinder pump.

Sump Pump Failed and Water Is Coming In

If you know it’s a sump pump and the basement is actively taking on water, use our emergency sump pump service.

“I had a concern my 10 year old sump pump was on the fritz and was heading out of town the next day. Austin plumbing came out the same day and did a full replacement. Leaving me with peace of mind while my wife is home with the kids.”

What Does Sump Pump Repair or Replacement Cost?

A sump pump that isn’t working right does not automatically need to be replaced.

Sometimes the answer is a smaller repair or correction. Other times the pump itself has failed and replacement makes more sense. We separate those outcomes because they are different jobs.

What Does Sump Pump Repair Cost?

Sump-pump repairs can vary quite a bit because the problem may be the float, check valve, discharge piping, an obstruction, the backup system, or something else around a pump that is still serviceable.

When it turns into a float, check valve, discharge, obstruction or other smaller sump-pump repair, those repairs typically range from about $200 to $500, depending on what failed and what it takes to correct it.

A call can also finish at the $99 dispatch fee when we test the system and no additional repair is needed or authorized.

If a repair is needed, we’ll show you what failed and give you the repair price before the work begins rather than pretending all sump-pump repairs fit one useful range.

What Does Sump Pump Replacement Cost?

Primary sump-pump replacement is much more consistent.

For qualifying completed Austin primary-pump replacements:

The middle half finished between about $1,000 and $1,400.

Some straightforward replacements finished below that range. More involved installations finished higher when the existing setup needed additional work.

Is That Normal for Southeastern Wisconsin?

Yes.

When we compare Austin’s historical replacement pricing with current published pricing in the Southeastern Wisconsin area, our completed-job range falls within normal professional market pricing for comparable sump-pump work.

That comparison matters because a pump sitting on a shelf, a straightforward replacement, a new sump system, and a primary-and-backup installation are not the same job.

We compare completed work to comparable completed work.

What Moves the Price?

The final price can change based on:

  • Whether the pump can be repaired or needs replacement
  • The pump and capacity the home needs
  • Check-valve or discharge work
  • Crock or lid work
  • Sealed or radon-covered crocks
  • Battery-backup equipment
  • Difficult access
  • Changes needed to the existing piping or setup
The Visit Is $99

The dispatch fee to get a qualified tradesperson to your home is $99.

If you move forward with the work, we waive it. The fee is also waived for current Club Austin members.

Real Austin Pricing, Not a Guess

Some companies publish a service fee or a starting price.

What is much harder to find is what a company’s own customers actually paid after the problem was diagnosed and the work was completed.

Where we have enough history to give you a responsible answer, we publish it. Then we compare our numbers with the Southeastern Wisconsin market as a reasonableness check.

Upfront & Fair Sump Pump Pricing Since 1939

You should know what failed, what the reasonable choices are, and what each option costs before deciding.

Our tradespeople are paid to solve the problem and recommend what makes sense for your home. The size of the job doesn’t change what they earn.

If a repair makes sense, we’ll show you the repair. If replacement gives you the better long-term answer, we’ll explain why.

5-star google quote

Just had the yearly plumbing inspection, and had the sump pump replaced. Carson did a great job in regards to both aspects. He was friendly, and explained what he was doing. Information was informative and helpful. Pricing was reasonable.

Repair the Sump Pump or Replace It?

Sometimes the pump is still good and the problem is around it. Sometimes the pump itself is the problem.

We’ll help you separate the two.

Repair the Existing System

Option 1

Repair makes sense when the pump is still dependable and the problem can be corrected without replacing it.

We see sump calls where the real issue is a stuck float, obstruction, check valve, discharge connection or another part of the setup.

If fixing that leaves you with a system we would be comfortable relying on, that can be the right answer.

Replace the Primary Pump

Option 2

Replacement makes more sense when the pump has failed, runs without moving water, has become unreliable or no longer makes sense to keep repairing.

How hard the pump works matters too. A pump that runs constantly during wet weather has a different life than one that rarely turns on.

If replacement is the better choice, we’ll explain why and show you the options.

If both paths are reasonable, we’ll explain the trade-offs and tell you what we would do if it were our home.

Our tradespeople are paid the same either way.

Battery Backup Is a Separate Decision

A good primary pump can still leave the basement vulnerable during a power outage or if the primary pump unexpectedly fails.

Battery backup gives you a second way to move water when the primary system cannot.

We can add backup protection to many existing sump systems or replace an older backup system when it is time.

New Sump Pump Installation

We also install new sump-pump systems when the project involves more than replacing an existing pump.

If the home needs a new crock, additional pump, larger system or substantial discharge changes, we’ll look at the site and build the project around what the home needs.

Good Sump Pump Service Is More Than Swapping a Pump.

The goal is dependable basement protection.

That means finding the actual problem, installing the right equipment when replacement makes sense and making sure the rest of the setup can do its job.

1

We Diagnose Before Replacing
A sump pump that acts strange does not automatically need to be replaced. We test what is happening first so the recommendation follows the problem.

2

Common Replacement Pumps Are Stocked
We stock selected sump pumps on service vehicles so many replacement calls can keep moving without automatically turning into another trip.

3

Plumbing and Electrical Under One Roof
Battery-backup and larger sump projects can cross into electrical work. When they do, you have both trades available through Austin instead of coordinating separate companies.

4

The Installation Details Have a Standard
The pump is only one part of the job. Our Austin Way standards create consistent expectations for the piping, check valve, supports, connections and serviceability around the equipment.

5

We Install Products We’d Use Ourselves
We choose equipment with reliability, serviceability and long-term ownership in mind—not simply what happens to be cheapest to put in.

6

The Company Behind the Work Is Built to Stay
Austin is privately owned and built for the long term. We’ve served Southeastern Wisconsin since 1939, and we intend to be here when you need us again.

Sump Pump Questions

Who Fixes Sump Pumps?

A plumber who works on sump-pump systems can diagnose, repair and replace the pump and the plumbing around it.

Austin handles sump pump repair, replacement, new installation and battery-backup systems across Southeastern Wisconsin.

If your pump has stopped working, runs constantly, is leaking, alarming or simply doesn’t seem reliable anymore, you can start with us.

Can You Add a Battery Backup to My Existing Sump Pump?

Often, yes.

We’ll look at the primary pump, available space, discharge setup and the condition of the system you already have.

If the primary pump is still dependable, adding backup protection may make sense. If the primary is already unreliable, it may make more sense to address both at the same time.

Why Is My Sump Pump Running Constantly?

A sump pump may run frequently because a lot of groundwater is entering the crock, but a pump that never shuts off can also have a float or system problem.

We’ve found floats stuck under piping, blocked by debris and even affected by roots growing into the crock.

If the water level has dropped and the pump keeps running, have it checked before the pump wears itself out.

What Should I Do if My Sump Pump Fails and Water Is Coming Into the Basement?

Use our emergency sump pump service and tell us water is actively entering the basement.

The immediate goal is getting pumping capacity back before the water causes more damage.
