Ben was exceptional! Polite, explained potential repairs I might need, and potential fixes, and then gave me details about length of project and cost. He cleaned up after and was prompt and thorough. He offered some longer term solutions and detailed the process on those, too. What a gem!

We had another great experience with Austin Plumbing. Don completed our bathroom plumbing install for us and both times he was out to the house he was thorough, professional, friendly, and was able to get the job done without complications. When our tankless water heater was intermittently igniting we called Austin's as it had rave reviews. Boy were we disappointed to say the very least, what a complete rip off!!! The system basically Dx itself with a code 11 indicating it was the igniter. The technician comes and says in order to know what the problem is [despite mind you the system says what the problem is] he needs to call the company Rinnai for them to talk him through a "Deep Dive" diagnostic step-by-step to find out what the problem is. Then he went into a sales pitch for some service plan that would lessen the cost. The cost to do this was $600+, so he called and was put on hold for upwards of 30-40" which I felt was absurd, we could have called ourselves to do that type of troubleshooting, why did we call a repair company. Just for them to drive to "work" [aka our home] it was $99 and he basically is just standing there doing nothing being on hold. My other option was $500+ to do a descaling as it had never been done, but this may not work and there could be leaking once the procedure was completed if in fact there were depositis that become dislodged during the descaling. At this point I phoned my husband regarding the options as both seemed rediculous. The technician stated the descaling was very simple to do in fact you can by the kit on Amazon for $85 and the solution is cheap vinegar. My husband asked the technician to check the flame rod and replace it as needed. Technician cleaned the metal ends of the flame rod as requested by my husband, technician said he did not have them and would need to order the replacement flame rod. Technician said we could also purchase online and he could come back to install it [would that have cost another $99?]. We also went ahead with the descaling, who knows if it really did anything [what an upcharge for an $85 kit and some vinegar that one could do themselves]. So at the end of the day we spent upwards of $600 for a heated water tank that basally Dx itself, my husband talking the Austin rep through the process of identifying the cause [since the Rinnai service rep never picked up after 30-40"], a system cleaning with an $85 pump and some vinegar [which who knows even did anything], and us ordering a $16 new flame rod and my husband installing it himself. It is un fathomable what the trades charge these days for non-life saving measures in their field, $99 just to drive to work, and then another $99 to drive to the next location, then add on the cost of hundereds of dollars to stand around on hold. This technician $ Austin plumbing made over $600 for less than 2 hours of work and the cost of vinegar. While medical personnel resuscitating patients and keeping others alive are making $50 or less an hour. That is very sad and shamefull. I am glad the majority of others who wrote reviews had a better experience.

That said, there are several points in your review that, respectfully, fall outside the scope of my or my company’s ability to comment on, and others that require clarification to ensure anyone reading this understands the full picture.You booked an online appointment with us to inspect an intermittently working 14-15 year-old tankless water heater that had never been maintained—a system well past the service intervals recommended by the manufacturer. The issue presented, an E11 ignition failure error, doesn’t diagnose itself, as you’ve suggested. There are dozens of potential causes for that error code, and when it’s intermittent, it’s rarely due to a failed part. When a part is truly broken, the unit typically stops working altogether—it doesn’t fail intermittently.We work on hundreds of types of water heaters and make no claims to arrive with parts to fix all of them. Instead, we follow a logical, systematic approach to eliminate guesswork and avoid wasting clients’ time or money. This is why we find it prudent to involve the manufacturer’s technical assistance. I’m sorry that, in this case, they were not as helpful as expected. Guesswork is frustrating for both clients and professionals alike, and we aim to avoid it entirely.When guesswork cannot be entirely avoided and the system has not been adequately maintained, we recommend (as we did for you) our “deep dive” servicing process. This approach includes a detailed diagnostic, completing overdue maintenance, and systematically eliminating non-part failures that could be causing error codes.It sounds like our technician did a great job presenting clear options, explaining the risks and benefits of each, and even discussing ways to source parts to help keep your costs down. He also provided options to continue this critical maintenance at a reduced cost through our membership program, along with its additional benefits.As far as the cost, the actual total was $522.59 ($497.70 + $24.89 tax), which is a fair price for the services rendered. If a client has the tools, know-how, and time to perform the work themselves, it would naturally be far less expensive. This applies not just to water heater maintenance but to any professional service we offer.Your review suggests our work took under two hours. While actual time onsite has no bearing on the price, we invested a total of 3 hours and 38 minutes into this visit—28 minutes of drive time and 3 hours and 10 minutes onsite.In the end, our technician delivered on every promise we make to a client. If this is a 1-star experience for you, then unfortunately, we likely could never have delivered the 5-star experience we were both hoping for.I’m sorry we came up short for you, and I thank you for giving us the opportunity to help.—Eric
10/8/24Steve M came and did my semiannual HVAC checkup. He suggested a new filter and a few repairs and he detailed the cost of several options that I could do now or wait a bit. I really appreciate his honesty and his knowledge!10/8/2024Sam V came and did my semiannual plumbing checkup, and showed me options for either repairing or replacing the "non stop flushing" toilet. I opted for new! Sam did a great job of explaining everything and of installing my new toilet! It looks great, and it's higher than the old one which I really appreciate!I had a big problem with backup of the basement drain that went on for months, even though I had another plumber come out twice to fix it. Then I called Austin and Pete E. came to help me.This man LOVES his job, is incredibly good at it, and after a very short time, I felt like he was a family member. He showed me what he was doing. He was thorough. He cleaned out the pipes and then went 67 ft. 2 inches to the city sewer with the camera, showing me that my pipes were now clear all the way to the street.I was impressed! This company is my plumbing and hvac go to from now on...and I will always ask for Pete for any plumbing needs!11/25/24 Michael R. came for my annual electrical checkup. He made certain that he noted anything that might need to be done To bring my kitchen up to code, should I decide to sell. He suggested looking into the central air wiring. He let me know that I needed new carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and where they should be strategically placed.Michael was extremely helpful and thorough! I would definitely recommend Michael, and look forward to seeing him for any future eletrical projects.

Our water heater died and they replaced it for us. They scheduled for the next morning and came right on time. They pulled all the permits so we KNOW it was done correctly and to code. We highly recommend Austin Plumbing.When the inspection was done, everything was installed perfectly. The crew were ahead of schedule but called first to see if OK to come 30 min before the appointed time. They donned booties to not track into the house. And did their work quickly and thoroughly. It was a pleasure to have them service our furnace.

Noah was great to work with. He was very polite and had a great knowledge base. Ran us through our options with our plumbing problem and came up with the best solution. We were shown the damaged piece that was causing the problem. Noah was very personable and confident. Glad he was dispatched to our house to fix our problem.
